Useful Words Definitions

Do: create or design, often in a certain way.

Drugget: a rug made of a coarse fabric having a cotton warp and a wool filling.

Inweave: weave together into a fabric or design.

Baste: a loose temporary sewing stitch to hold layers of fabric together.

Tissue: create a piece of cloth by interlacing strands of fabric, such as wool or cotton.

Stencil: a sheet of material (metal, plastic, cardboard, waxed paper, silk, etc.) that has been perforated with a pattern (printing or a design); ink or paint can pass through the perforations to create the printed pattern on the surface below.

Redesign: design anew, make a new design for.

Canvas: a large piece of fabric (usually canvas fabric) by means of which wind is used to propel a sailing vessel.

Organza: a fabric made of silk or a silklike fabric that resembles organdy.

Cowboy Boot: a boot with a high arch and fancy stitching; worn by American cowboys.

Refilling: filling again by supplying what has been used up.

Sandwich: two (or more) slices of bread with a filling between them.

Stodge: heavy and filling (and usually starchy) food.

Tart: a small open pie with a fruit filling.

Twinkie: a small sponge cake with a synthetic cream filling.

Roulade: a dish consisting of a slice of meat that is rolled around a filling and cooked.

Interlayer: a layer placed between other layers.

Mineral Vein: a layer of ore between layers of rock.

Intracutaneous: relating to areas between the layers of the skin.

Two-Ply: having a thickness made up of two layers or strands.

Pericardium: a serous membrane with two layers that surrounds the heart.

Plyboard: a laminate made of thin layers of wood.

Develop: create by training and teaching.

Sew: create (clothes) with cloth.

Compound: create by mixing or combining.

Creative: having the ability or power to create.
