Sunbather: someone who basks in the sunshine in order to get a suntan.

Erythema: abnormal redness of the skin resulting from dilation of blood vessels (as in sunburn or inflammation).

Actinic Keratosis: an overgrowth of skin layers resulting from extended exposure to the sun.

Radiation: syndrome resulting from exposure to ionizing radiation (e.g., exposure to radioactive chemicals or to nuclear explosions); low doses cause diarrhea and nausea and vomiting and sometimes loss of hair; greater exposure can cause sterility and cataracts and some forms of cancer and other diseases; severe exposure can cause death within hours.

Sun Blocker: a cream spread on the skin; contains a chemical (as PABA) to filter out ultraviolet light and so protect from sunburn.

Insolate: expose to the rays of the sun or affect by exposure to the sun.

Photalgia: pain in the eye resulting from exposure to bright light (often associated with albinism).

Chapped: used of skin roughened as a result of cold or exposure.

Windburn: redness and irritation of the skin caused by exposure to high-velocity wind.

Industrial Disease: disease or disability resulting from conditions of employment (usually from long exposure to a noxious substance or from continuous repetition of certain acts).

Arthur Compton: United States physicist noted for research on x-rays and gamma rays and nuclear energy; his observation that X-rays behave like miniature bowling balls in their interactions with electrons provided evidence for the quantal nature of light (1892-1962).

Hickey: a temporary prominent red mark on a person`s skin resulting from kissing or sucking by their lover.

Ulcer: a circumscribed inflammatory and often suppurating lesion on the skin or an internal mucous surface resulting in necrosis of tissue.

Acne Rosacea: a skin disease of adults (more often women) in which blood vessels of the face enlarge resulting in a flushed appearance.

Radiogram: a photographic image produced on a radiosensitive surface by radiation other than visible light (especially by X-rays or gamma rays).

Braised: cooked by browning in fat and then simmering in a closed container.

Compound Fracture: A "compound fracture" occurs when a broken bone penetrates the skin, resulting in an open wound. This condition is also referred to as an open fracture.

Goose Bump: reflex erection of hairs of the skin in response to cold or emotional stress or skin irritation etc.

Seborrheic Dermatitis: a chronic skin disease associated with seborrhea and greasy scales on the scalp or eyelids or other parts of the skin.

Vitiligo: an acquired skin disease characterized by patches of unpigmented skin (often surrounded by a heavily pigmented border).

Itch: a contagious skin infection caused by the itch mite; characterized by persistent itching and skin irritation.

Burn: cause to burn or combust.

Scorch: a surface burn.

Blaze Up: burn brightly.

Char: burn to charcoal.

Pemphigus: a skin disease characterized by large thin-walled blisters (bullae) arising from normal skin or mucous membrane.

Aleppo Boil: leishmaniasis of the skin; characterized by ulcerative skin lesions.

Dermatitis: inflammation of the skin; skin becomes itchy and may develop blisters.

Pityriasis: any of several skin disorders characterized by shedding dry flakes of skin.

Blaze: burn brightly and intensely.

Torch: burn maliciously, as by arson.
